Launched in February 2011 at the Talbot Rice Gallery, the Research Forum for German Visual Culture (RFGVC) is led by Prof. Christian Weikop.

The scope of RFGVC's interest encompasses Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. While the central focus is on modern and contemporary visual culture, the Forum does not exclude coverage of earlier periods.

In the first instance, RFGVC is designed to cohere and draw upon the considerable expertise and research networks of Germanists based in Scottish academic and art institutions, and to create various opportunities for knowledge transfer.

Beyond this goal, the Forum is intended as a key research exchange point encouraging relations within a matrix of international research institutions, centres, associations, and societies.

RFGVC encourages contact between art historians and curators, fostering and contributing to the development of national and international collaborative, cross-disciplinary and cross-cultural research by means of seminars, conferences, colloquia, and lectures.

For details on a publication channel for the RFGVC, please see Prof. Christian Weikop's series for Peter Lang on German Visual Culture:

A number of events and activities relating to a major project celebrating the important Edinburgh Festival / ECA exhibition Strategy: Get Arts (1970) took place under the auspices of the Research Forum for German Visual Culture. This was in association with other key supporting organisations, such as NGS and Creative Scotland. A link to that project is here:
