Research title:

Grassroot-Producing Informality: A Study of Informal Green Space in the Sprawling and Shrinking Peri-urban of Tangshan

Biography

Jiangning is a PhD candidate in Landscape Architecture at the University of Edinburgh. His research focuses on the dynamics of land use change in post-industrial cities, especially on informal green spaces (IGS) in the sprawling and shrinking peri-urban area. Integrating urban political ecology, Lefebvrian spatial theory, and ethnographic inquiry, his current work explores how everyday spatial practices and local actors shape the reproduction of urban nature/semi-nature beyond formal planning discourse.

Before doctoral studies, Jiangning worked in the industry of environmental management, where he gained experience in urban environmental governance and sustainable landscape development.
