An exciting new masters programme is being launched at Edinburgh College of Art (ECA).

The MA Craft offers the opportunity to explore ceramics, glass, jewellery, silversmithing and textiles. Applications are open until 30 June for the first intake of the course, which will run from the start of the 2025-26 academic year.

While some of the disciplines included in the MA may have traditional roots, students will be encouraged to explore digital tools and techniques, making the most of the superb facilities available at ECA, along with the expertise of both academic and technical staff.

ECA Head of Design, Dr Jessamy Kelly, said: “We’re looking for applicants that are really interested in going in depth into their own creative practice. And that creative practice can come from many different fields, but also we’re very much open to students and applicants that are interested in design as well, and the connection that craft and design has.

“So if you have a background that perhaps isn’t directly related to craft, but you are interested in craft, as a way forward for your creative pathway, we’re very interested in hearing from you.

“As a graduate of this programme you’ll have an in depth understanding of craft and design and be able to really open yourself up to some career opportunities that offer you a wide spectrum of options. That might range from commercial to high-end markets as well as freelance and self-employed career pathways within the field of craft and design.

“Our MA in Craft is one of a kind in Scotland, situated within one of the few centres of excellence in this discipline in the UK, making it completely unique to Scotland.”
