Who is this course for?

This course is aimed primarily at candidates for the ARB/RIBA Part 3 Examination in Professional Practice and Management, but will be useful to recently qualified architects, particularly those coming to the UK from another country, who may wish to refresh or add to their knowledge of a wide range of topics pertinent to architectural management.

  • Course dates: 14 - 18 June 2021

2021 Course Structure

The Update in Architectural Management Course will be held online this year from 14-18 June. There will be video presentations that you will be expected to watch each day prior to completing group work tasks on the topics discussed, i.e. following a video talk on Appointments you will be given a task to complete based on Appointments. The video presentations will all be released a week before the course begins to allow candidates flexibility in deciding when to watch them.

Each day you will be issued with one or two tasks on which you would be expected to spend between 30 minutes and 90 minutes in total (the length of time depends on the complexity of the task/s). Written tasks must be completed and submitted by 8pm each day. Some tasks will take the form of a verbal response the following morning e.g. groups will be invited to discuss how they would deal with an issue on site.

The following morning - 9am-10.30am approximately - there will be a review of the previous day’s talks by the presenters, and your answers to the previous day’s Issues will be discussed.

The course is designed to allow a certain amount of flexibility as to when you watch the videos and respond to the tasks, however you must attend the morning live sessions. To get the most out of the course we would suggest that you take the five mornings as study leave.

The course ends on the Friday with a live session dedicated to a discussion of the examination that runs 4pm - 5pm followed by virtual drinks and a talk by this year’s special guest.
