Bucher-Fraser Scholarship (for continued study)

Carnegie PhD Scholarships

  • Deadline: 31 January 2022
  • Value: Covers tuition fees, a maintenance allowance and a research expenses allowance.
  • Eligibility: For graduates of an eligible Scottish university with a first-class honours degree, or final year students of an undergraduate degree at an eligible Scottish University expected to obtain a first-class honours.

College Research Awards

Edinburgh Doctoral College Scholarship

  • Eligibility: Open to UK and overseas students applying to start their first year of study for an on campus research degree in 2022-2023.

Edinburgh Global Online Distance Learning Masters Scholarship

  • Value: Cover full tuition fees for normal duration of programme
  • Eligibility: Scholarships will be available for students commencing any online part-time learning Masters programme offered by the University in session 2021-2022. Nationals and residents of various countries are eligible.

Eileen Cameron Music Prize

  • Eligibility: Awarded to the final year student who has made the most outstanding contribution to the musical life of the faculty, the University of Edinburgh, or of the wider Edinburgh community.

Erasmus grant

  • Eligibility: Students registered on a full-time programme who are undertaking a minimum of two months' continuous work or three months' study mobility.

Frederick Niecks Essay Prize

  • Eligibility: Open to any full-time undergraduate student in the Reid School of Music. Awarded to the best dissertation.

GREAT Scholarships

  • Deadline: 1 June 2021
  • Value: £10,000
  • Eligibility: The scholarships will be awarded to nationals and residents of China, Egypt, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mexico, Pakistan, Nepal, and Sri Lanka who are accepted for admission on a full-time basis for an eligible one-year on campus postgraduate Masters programme.

Gwen Clutterbuck & Leighton Scholarship

  • Eligibility: Awarded to undergraduate students in the second or subsequent years of their BMus or MA programme in the Reid School of Music for the purpose of international study. NB that due to the Covid-19 pandemic, applications for digital study opportunities will be treated preferentially in 2021.

Hollins Organ Scholarship

  • Eligibility: Open for award annually to matriculated students in Music. Preference will be given to an organist preparing for the diplomas of Associateship and Fellowship of the Royal College of Organists.

Ian Pitt Memorial Prize

  • Eligibility: Intended to commemorate the life and work of Ian Pitt-Watson (MA 1947, BD 1950) and awarded to an undergraduate who, as a member of Edinburgh University Musical Society, demonstrates an aptitude in the development and conducting of a choral ensemble.

J.S. Anderson Organ Prize

James Smart Memorial Organ Scholarship

  • Eligibility: Awarded to a Music student aged between 17 and 20, who shows the greatest promise and all-round ability in organ/piano performance.

Janet Buckley Memorial Prize

Jean Kennoway Howells Scholarship

  • Eligibility: Open for applicants to full-time postgraduate taught Masters programmes in the Reid School of Music.

Mrs Guthrie Watson Scholarship

  • Deadline: May 2022
  • Eligibility: Awarded to the first year undergraduate in Music who achieves the best all-round academic performance in the May examinations.

Sir Thomas Beecham Scholarship

  • Deadline: May 2022
  • Eligibility: Awarded annually, on the basis of the results of the end of year performance examinations, to the first year undergraduate in music who shows the greatest promise in instrumental performance (not including pianists and singers).

St Mary’s Cathedral Choral Scholarship (External)

  • Deadline: Open ended
  • Value: Up to 3 x £3,000 - £4,000 per annum
  • Eligibility: Up to three scholarships (External) are available for female and male altos, tenors, and basses. Applicants can be undergraduate or postgraduate Music students (all programmes). Applicants should be experienced choir singers, have a good level of sight-reading and should wish to develop their singing further.

The Hamilton & Inches Scholarship Programme

  • Eligibility: Awarded to 4th year students on the Jewellery & Silversmithing – BA (Hons) programme.

The Robert Hillenbrand Prize in Islamic Art and Architecture

  • Eligibility: Awarded for an outstanding dissertation by an undergraduate Honours student.

Tovey Memorial Prize
