Decolonizing Space and Memory: The Tianjin Concessions' Story

Biography

Xutong Yuan is an interdisciplinary researcher and artist, whose work navigates the complex narratives at the intersection of history and culture, with a particular focus on the Tianjin Concessions. She integrates decolonization theories, collective memory, critical geography, and essay-film studies to unravel and reinterpret the complex layers of spatial and historical contexts shaped by colonial legacies. Through a blend of theoretical inquiry and artistic expression, Xutong utilizes critical spatial practice and essay-film as innovative methodologies to explore the dynamics of space, memory, and identity in the Tianjin Concessions.
