Pilar Garcia de Leaniz is an award-winning illustrator working across the fields of design and art. She works in various mediums including mural painting, advertising, branding, publishing and editorial work. She has completed notable projects for the Scottish Government, NHS, University of Edinburgh, University of St Andrews, Live Borders, Anaya Publisher, among others.
Her work has been featured in different media including the BBC, the Scotsman and Edinburgh News.
Research interests
Pilar teaches on the Masters in Illustration programme, Undergraduate Textiles and Performance Costume programmes at Edinburgh College of Art where she completed her Masters. She also lectures in the Building Near Futures course (in Edinburgh Futures Institute). Prior to this she studied at ESIC in Madrid Advertising and PR and Marketing. She also has a Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice from the University of Edinburgh.

My research practice to date has focused on using illustration to engage communities, inside ECA and outside. I work with colleagues across ECA, the wider University community and private and third sector organisations outside ECA.
Other research interests: womanhood and mental health.
