Biography

Throughout her career, Moyna Flannigan has worked with galleries and museums across Europe and the United States. Exhibitions include Once upon our time: Portrait Miniatures by Moyna Flannigan a highly acclaimed collection of portrait miniatures first exhibited at the Scottish National Portrait Gallery, 2004; New Work by Moyna Flannigan, What You See is Where You’re At, Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art, 2010; Vanuit Hier – Out of Here, Van Abbe Museum, Eindhoven Netherlands, 2011, the Andy Warhol Museum, Pittsburgh, 2010, and GENERATION: 25 years of Contemporary Art in Scotland, 2014 at Gallery of Modern Art, Glasgow.

Recent exhibitions include: Space Shuffle, Collective Gallery, Edinburgh Art Festival, 2024; Museum of Memory, Museum Arnhem, Netherlands 2024; MATTER, Ingleby Gallery, Edinburgh 2021; and NOW: Monster Chetwynd, Henry Coombes, Moyna Flannigan, Betye Saar, Wael Shawsky, Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art, 2018. Moyna Flannigan’s work is included in Phaidon’s Vitamin C+: Collage in Contemporary Art, published in 2023; and in the same year she received the prestigious Bryan Robertson Award.

Moyna Flannigan graduated in Painting BA (Hons) at Edinburgh College of Art in 1985, and received a major scholarship to study the MFA at Yale University School of Art, USA from 1985 – 87.  In 1997 she was awarded a Scottish Arts Council Fellowship at The British School in Rome.  She lectured in Painting at Glasgow School of Art from 1995 – 2005, was Teaching Fellow at Edinburgh College of Art from 2015 – 19,  2023-24 and in 2024 was appointed Lecturer in Fine Art, Painting.

Teaching

Moyna Flannigan lectured in Painting at The Glasgow School of Art from 1995-2005, was Teaching Fellow in Painting at Edinburgh College of Art from 2015-2019 and in 2024 was appointed Lecturer in Fine Art, Painting.
