Dr Patricia Macdonald is an environmental researcher; an award-winning artist photographer whose powerful, boundary-crossing aerial imagery – made in collaboration with Professor Angus Macdonald of ESALA, University of Edinburgh, through the Aerographica partnership – is exhibited, published and held in public and private collections internationally; and an academic (Honorary Fellow; co-organiser and lecturer in Honours Course on Cultural Landscape; visiting lecturer on environmental history, conservation, perception and iconography; visiting critic and external assessor for fine-art-photography- and museum-related projects, Edinburgh University and elsewhere). She is the author/co-author of ten books and numerous articles and her work appears, or is discussed, in a wide range of other publications, in both environmental and art contexts. See below, and:

Patricia also has considerable experience in the museum and natural-heritage sectors, both as a staff member (Assistant Keeper, National Museums of Scotland) and at board level (Member of Main Board, Scottish Natural Heritage; Trustee, the John Muir Trust; Board Member, Stills Gallery). She is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh, of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland, and of the Royal Society of Arts, and an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Scottish Geographical Society and of the Institute for Contemporary Scotland.
She has authored/co-authored ten books, including The Hebrides: An aerial view of a cultural landscape (2010, with Angus Macdonald); Airworks (2001); Once in Europa (1999, with John Berger and Angus Macdonald); Order & Chaos: Views of Gaia (1990); and Shadow of Heaven (1989).
