Research title:
Animating the City: A Study of Urban Space and Social Change in Chinese Animated Films
Chuan Jiang is a PhD candidate at the University of Edinburgh, specializing in animation research. With a foundation in both animation direction and visual arts, Chuan’s work reflects a deep interest in blending traditional and digital techniques to create unique visual narratives. Her artistic vision often explores the intersection of culture, identity, and the human experience.
Her work has been showcased in multiple international exhibitions, including in China and the United States, and she has led the visual art direction for prominent film festivals, including the Mint Chinese Film Festival and "To See More Vanishing Woman - Glasgow Female Film Festival." In addition to her academic and artistic pursuits, Chuan’s unique hand-drawn and digital painting techniques blend delicate brushwork to create impactful visual narratives.
She is actively involved in the academic community and continues to explore how animation can push boundaries within the arts, film, and beyond.
