Four artists and Edinburgh College of Art alumni have been selected for the Trinity Buoy Wharf Drawing Prize 2023 exhibition, a prestigious annual open exhibition for drawing, open until 15 October.
Michael Becker (MA Architecture (Hons), 2023), Roy Eastland (BA Drawing and Painting, 1996), Vladimir Guculak (MSc Landscape Architecture, 2012) and Aleksandra Warchol (MA Fine Art, 2023) were selected from more than 3,000 submissions for the exhibition, which aims to champion the role, breadth, and value of drawing in creative practice today.
The prize is split into two categories - the Trinity Buoy Wharf Drawing Prize, celebrating talent and excellence in current drawing practice, and the Working Drawing Award, which celebrates the role of drawing specifically within architecture, design and making processes.
Roy Eastland and Aleksandra Warchol were selected for the Trinity Buoy Wharf Drawing Prize 2023 exhibition, joining 94 other selected artists.The selection was made by Laura Hoptman, Executive Director of The Drawing Center, New York; Dennis Scholl AM, Collector, Arts Patron, President & CEO of Oolite Arts; and Barbara Walker MBE RA, British Artist.
Michael Becker and Vladimir Guculak are among 17 practitioners selected for the Working Drawing Award. The selection was made by Ben Heath, Principal, Grimshaw Architects; Debbie Hillyerd, Senior Director of Learning, Hauser & Wirth; and Michael Pavelka, Costume & Set Designer for Stage, Dance, and Opera.

Founded in 1994 by artist and Professor, Anita Taylor, Dean of Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design, University of Dundee, the annual Trinity Buoy Wharf Drawing Prize celebrates talent and excellence in current drawing practice.
The exhibition provides an important platform for artists, designers, makers and other drawing practitioners as a catalyst within their careers, and champions the role, breadth, and value of drawing in creative practice today.
The Trinity Buoy Wharf Drawing Prize is supported by the Trinity Buoy Wharf Trust, and 2023 marks the 6th year of their generous support for the annual open exhibition.
