A team of 17 staff and students from ECA are to present their work at a special exhibition during Munich Jewellery Week, to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the cities being twinned.

Edinburgh Meets Munich is an interdisciplinary contemporary jewellery exhibition, and comes after an invitation from Barbara Schmidt, Head of Culture at the Handwerkskammer für München und Oberbayern (The Chamber of Crafts for Munich and Upper Bavaria).

Students, researchers and staff will travel to Munich for the show, presenting examples of their work in response to the question: "How does research underpin your own studio practice?"

There will also be a panel discussion with Ms Schmidt, titled Research Meets Practice.

The exhibition runs from 13 to 15 March, as part of Munich Jewellery Week, which has gained a reputation for being the most important event for the field worldwide, with an emphasis on experimental and innovative jewellery. It sees exhibitions, panel discussions, artist talks and performances held across the city.

Jennifer Gray, programme director for BA (Hons) Jewellery and Silversmithing, who is among those exhibiting, said: "We are very excited to have been invited to exhibit at this internationally recognised festival of jewellery.

"We will be showcasing a highly collaborative exhibition providing students with an opportunity to lead in the design, organisation, set-up, and running of an exhibition at the largest international showcase of contemporary jewellery worldwide. Our ambitious show will draw together students, department staff, and external industry partners internationally.
