Abstract

This talk examines the complexities of cultural heritage restitution in Latin America, focusing on the linguistic, legal, political and historical challenges involved. It presents the research and the methodology conducted for a special issue of Art in Translation, offering insights into seven national case studies and emphasising the importance of inclusive, multilingual dialogue. The aim is to broaden access to Latin American perspectives on restitution, return and repatriation.

Biography

Verónica Uribe Hanabergh is Associate Professor of Art History at Universidad de Los Andes. Specialising in 19th-century art, she has authored books and articles, received prestigious grants, and serves on several academic boards. Her research explores Latin American art, travel, materiality and transatlantic artistic exchanges.
