Edinburgh is one of Europe’s most vibrant and creative capital cities, and is regularly voted one of the most desirable places to live in the world. But what do our Film Directing students make of it?

In October, we asked them to tell us what it’s like to study Film in Edinburgh. We’ve compiled a top 5 list from their replies!

1. "Edinburgh is a city of many different landscapes - built-up areas, parks, beaches, rivers and hills. This makes it incredibly valuable for location scouting, especially when everything can be accessed within walking distance."

     - Marios Lizides, MA Film Directing student

2. "There are fantastic opportunities to volunteer and get involved in the Edinburgh Film Festival. It’s a great way of seeing new films and meeting likeminded people."

     - Anna Stoltzmann, MFA Film Directing student

3."You can take your time in your favourite café and write your next treatment while watching the seasons swiftly change outside your window. I haven’t been in Edinburgh that long, but it’s a city you can fall in love with."

     - Marios Lizides, MA Film Directing student

4. "We’re challenged to make a short film every two weeks, but it doesn’t bother me because I can always find unique scenery to shoot in Edinburgh. It’s a special city - peaceful, friendly and historic, a perfect place to create art. I can’t wait to make more beautiful films in the next few months."

     - Yuzhu Hao, MA Film Directing student

5. "I love visiting Edinburgh’s many museums and galleries, getting inspired by other artists and their stories is great."

     - Anna Stoltzmann, MFA Film Directing student
