A prominent career led her to be the first woman painter to become an Academician of the Royal Scottish Academy and an influential member of the Scottish art world.

Daniel's decision to study at ECA was fuelled by an immense passion for painting but the opportunities he encountered once enrolled on the course are what have shaped his interests in the field today. Culminating in his nomination for the Freelands painting prize, the Purchase Prize from the university’s Art Collection and an opportunity to show at the Royal Scottish Academy New Contemporaries Exhibition in 2023.

A new bequest from the estate of ECA alumni and former lecturers Dame Elizabeth Blackadder RSA and John Houston RSA OBE will fund an extensive programme of support for artists in Scotland, including new funding awards for ECA students.

An annual public lecture by a distinguished art historian marking the collaboration between the University of Edinburgh and National Galleries of Scotland. 

The graduate was selected for RSA NEW CONTEMPORARIES and received a full scholarship for the Royal Drawing School.

The History of Architecture and the Built Environment (HABE) research group reflects the strength of Architectural and Urban History as a broadly conceived discipline at the University of Edinburgh. We have one of the largest concentrations of architectural historians of any European university, and a well-established record of internationally recognised research, which also informs our teaching. We carry out collaborative research as well as individual scholarship, and work closely with the Scottish Centre for Conservation Studies, also based at the University of Edinburgh, as well as colleagues in other university schools and subject areas.
