It was the work of an Animation alumna that encouraged Laura Jayne Hodkin to come to ECA. Now, having graduated last year and picking up numerous awards for her final film 'Nailbiter' and follow-up 'Hayley and Joanna', Laura shares her experiences of ECA and tells us what is next.

The 2021 website has been shortlisted for a Drum Award for the Digital Industries in the Best Website Design category.


Robyn Benson returned with other alumni for a unique exhibition Drawing on Drawing featuring work by graduates, current staff and students alongside works from the University of Edinburgh collections.

Since graduating in 2016, Vera Babida has been shortlisted for several awards including a BAFTA 'New Talent' nomination and was selected as one of It’s Nice That’s 'The Graduates 2016'. She offers advice to new students and recent graduates, from getting yourself out there to making mistakes.


Studying at ECA, under the guidance of Dr Alex Bremner, allowed Tommaso to turn his fascination of the middle ages into a PhD research proposal. Tommaso was awarded the 2021/2022 Paul Mellon Centre Rome Fellowship by the Paul Mellon Centre for Studies in British Art.

Studying at ECA was a rich experience for Ziwen which resulted in a full scholarship for his PhD project from the China Scholarship Council as well as over ten international research awards including the University of Edinburgh's Tweedie Exploration Fellowship and The University of Edinburgh's Principal's Go Abroad Fund.

Jessica Kelly has written music for games, short films, apps, theatre, documentaries, a web series and various festivals. Jessica won 'Best Music Video' at the RoundGlass Music Awards in New York in January 2018, and has performed her music live at the Soundtrack Cologne awards ceremony.

Previously a printmaker, Daniel Cook discovered that film was his passion during his time at Edinburgh College of Art (ECA). Daniel's Master's short 'The King and I' enjoyed award success on the film festival circuit and his new moving image project 'Glasshouse' was recently exhibited at the Embassy Gallery. 


Sarah returned to ECA to continue her artistic education after being awarded the Andrew Grant Scholarship to study on the Illustration - MA programme.
