Research title: New materialism, theorising through and with matter

Kim W. Wilson is an artist based in Scotland and has exhibited in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dundee, London, Poznan (Poland) and Berlin.

The title of her Art PhD is, new materialism: theorising through and with matter.

Through her practice-based research, Kim will adopt a new materialist approach to making and enquiry that can unite separate visual and material research practices. This new materialist methodology signals a reorientation of concerns from the epistemological to the ontological, from the ‘how’ to the ‘what’ and seeks to redress the unacknowledged constitutive nature of matter.

Kim will explore the potential of new materialism as a material practice in itself entangling materials, writing, film, performance and theory.
