Programme: History of Art - MPhil/PhD/MSc by Research

Start date: September 2014

Mode of study: Full time

Research title: Envisaging Alternatives: Representations of Women in Kurt Schwitters' Collages

I attained my MA (Hons) in English Literature (2013) and my MLitt in Modernities: Literature, Theory and Culture (2014) from the University of Glasgow, before beginning my PhD at Edinburgh College of Art in History of Art. My Master's thesis focused on the English translation of Kurt Schwitters' poem "An Anna Blume" (1919) and explored its feminist themes. My PhD is a continuation and expansion of this work, examining other poems by the German artist, and his collages which feature women: using feminist and queer frameworks to explore the aesthetics of the New Woman and the shifting gender politics expressed throughout his oeuvre. I am also a regular contributor to Sch...: the Kurt Schwitters Society Journal.
