seven&one, a cross-discipline collective formed by Edinburgh College of Art (ECA) students, will launch their next exhibition at Coburg House, Edinburgh, this Friday (22nd January 2016).
The collective was established in October 2015 and formed through mutual friendship. The Coburg House show will be their fourth.
The group is truly inter-disciplinary and comprises three 4th year Sculpture BA students, one 4th year MAFA student, one 3rd year MAFA student, one 1st year MA Creative Practice student, and two 4th year Painting BA students.
Their name comes from the way they organise themselves: they work on a circuit-based rotation system in which one member steps down from exhibiting and curates whilst the others exhibits.
Though they consist of five sculptors, two painters and one print-maker, their work is more fluid and transcends multiple themes - from semiotics, dirt and the body, to myth and structural forms. Their collaboration allows them to interchange ideas, methods, and materials in order to adapt their output towards the collective experience.
Fourth year Painting student Danny Leyland said, “We are all close friends and the most exciting utility of our collective is how natural it is to continue working alongside one another. I have no doubt that it will be something to be continued after graduation - which, for five of us, comes in May.”
The show opens with a private view on Friday 22nd January at 7pm at Coburg House, 15 Coburg Street, Edinburgh, EH6 6ET. It continues Saturday 23rd January through to Sunday 31st January 2016.
