At this time of year, staff and students at Edinburgh College of Art have many reasons to celebrate. Two such reasons are the extremely successful first five years of the partnership between ECA, the University of Edinburgh and Shanghai International College of Fashion and Innovation (SCF), Donghua University and the impending graduations of the first cohort of Direct Entry students from SCF to ECA. Direct Entry into third year is an option for SCF students as a part of the collaborative partnership.

The governing board for collaborations between the two universities, the Joint Management Committee, meets once a year to oversee the beneficial partnership. Stuart Bennett, as Principal of ECA attended at the most recent meeting of this committee in April 2019.

"It is an immense personal joy and a privilege to witness students from both institutions graduating ready to take their place in the world as designers, trend-setters or creative entrepreneurs.”

Juliette MacDonald, who is Director of the ECA/SCF collaboration, is delighted that the partnership has proven to be so fruitful. Juliette, who also works in Shanghai on secondment as International Dean to SCF, will be in Shanghai to attend the SCF graduation ceremony at Donghua University. She will return to Edinburgh in time to see the first Direct Entry students graduate from ECA. She says of the fruitful collaboration and soon-to-be graduates of the universities;

“As one of the team from Edinburgh University who spent many hours in the Donghua International Office, designing with colleagues the collaboration between the two institutions, it is an immense personal joy and a privilege to witness students from both institutions graduating ready to take their place in the world as designers, trend-setters or creative entrepreneurs.”

Professor Zhong Hong from Donghua University, who was involved in the setting up of the collaboration, will also be travelling from Shanghai to participate in the academic procession at the graduation ceremony in Edinburgh on the 4thof July.
