Students have access to a wide variety of resources as well as several dedicated collections of musical instruments at the University. Music can also provide a sophisticated array of IT equipment for students to use during their studies.

The Reid Music Collection

The Reid Music Collection, situated within the Main Library, is an exceptionally fine general music library of some 85,000 volumes (20,000 books, 65,000 scores and over 8,500 sound recordings) containing many rarities and valuable first editions.

There are also important collections in the University Library and the National Library of Scotland. Archives of material relating to Scots culture, including all types of traditional Scottish music, are housed in the research centre of the School of Scottish Studies Archive which is part of Celtic and Scottish Studies in the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Science. The School of Scottish Studies Archive also houses the John Levy Archive of mainly religious and court music from South Asia and the Far East.
