The metal workshop is home to an array of rolling, bending and cutting tools and is used by students across Edinburgh College of Art. The workshop is equipped to deal with both large- and small-scale projects, with a variety of hand tools, welding torches, and automated machinery for constructing prototypes and final pieces.

The facility is open to all students, but as safety is paramount in the workshop, full inductions and supervision is provided by Technical Learning Services staff to allow you to work as safely and independently as possible.

You will be encouraged to develop manual skills such as welding and folding, as well as having access to the use of the steel guillotine and CNC plasma cutter, which cuts metal precisely based on work created in design software.

A member of the Technical Learning Services staff is constantly present and available to offer expert assistance and support where required, and to help you realise your work from an original concept all the way through to a finished piece.
