Computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing (often abbreviated to CAD-CAM) facilities are available to students across Edinburgh College of Art workshops. These include 3D printers, 3D scanners, CNC routers and laser printers.

These emerging technologies allow you to work on projects that span digital design and physical fabrication. Since these techniques have the potential to overlap with a variety of subject areas, you will be able to find and make use of this equipment in the wood workshop, metal workshop, model workshops, reprographics as well as the dedicated CAD-CAM suite.

Inductions are available with staff in all these areas, and through our Lynda.com membership, you can learn to use the software required to generate specific files for sending to these facilities. Printing and cutting of your work can be booked in advance with the Technical Learning Services staff, who can also advise you in the correct preparation of your files.
