This two-day international conference on place, pedagogy and play is the first of its kind in Edinburgh.

Supported by the Edinburgh College of Art (ECA) Devolved Researcher Fund, it will bring together researchers and practitioners who work for, and with, children across a wide range of disciplines.

The conference will include three keynote lectures; the confirmed speakers are:

  • Professor Catharine Ward Thompson, Professor of Landscape Architecture at the University of Edinburgh and Director of OPENspace research centre;
  • Professor Robin Moore, a pioneer in the field of children’s play and learning environments, and Director of the NC State University Natural Learning Initiative in North Carolina, USA.

The Organising Committee is based in the School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture (ESALA) at ECA, where a number of staff and PhD students have expertise in researching with and for children both in the UK and globally.

Building on the success of their award-winning Innovative Learning Week event, Play+Design=Learning, it is led by ESALA PhD students Matluba Khan, Nik Farhanah and Reyhaneh Mozaffar, together with Katie Forrester (Illustration - PhD), Roxana Bakhshayesh (Architecture - PhD), Athina Georgiou Shippi (Landscape Architecture - PhD) and June Xu (Education - PhD).
