How to showcase and communicate interdisciplinary research findings

This was the fifth seminar workshop run by sIREN (student-led Interdisciplinary Research Network), it explored the theme of showcasing and communicating interdisciplinary research findings.

Four speakers from three different disciplines across the University of Edinburgh and the University of Warwick were invited.

Keynote speakers presented part of their own research activities related to methods, strategies and challenges when undertaking interdisciplinary research. 

The aim of the workshop was to enhance knowledge and skills and to open up the discussion to participants.

Programme:

  • 14.00 - 14.15: Introduction to sIREN and welcome keynote speakers 
  • 14.15 - 14.45: Dr. Michael Dieter 'Critical Interface Studies: Some Experiments in Interdisciplinary Teaching and Research' (Assistant Professor, Centre for Interdisciplinary Methodologies, University of Warwick)
  • 14.45 - 15.15: Marcin Pietruszewski ‘The integrative object: a multi-scale approach to computer music composition’ (PhD Candidate in Creative Music Practice, Edinburgh College of Art)
  • 15.15 - 15.30: Coffee break
  • 15.30 - 16.00: Prof. Peter Nelson 'The Joys of Exile: journeys in strange disciplines' (Professor, Personal Chair of Music and Technology, Edinburgh College of Art)
  • 16.00 -16.30: Dr. Tolulope Onabolu 'Intercalated Methodologies: What Design/ Creative Practice Research can Learn from Expermental Physics' (TechCube, Summerhall and Tutor and Director of plastiqHaus, Edinburgh College of Art)
  • 16.30 - 17.00: Discussion, Networking/Collaboration

About sIREN

The sIREN (student-led Interdisciplinary Research Network) series is organised by two postgraduate students at ECA: Eleni-Ira Panourgia (Art - PhD); and Katerina Talianni (Music - PhD).

The aim of these networking events is to bring together research-active staff and students to exchange methods, knowledge and ideas around interdisciplinary research and its potential.
