Speaker: Richard Weller

Richard is the Martin and Margy Meyerson Chair of Urbanism and Professor and Chair of Landscape Architecture at the University of Pennsylvania (PennDesign) where he teaches history, theory and advanced design studios. Weller is co-director of the Ian L. McHarg Centre at Penn and also sits on the board of the Landscape Architecture Foundation (LAF) in Washington DC.

Throughout his career he has worked simultaneously as an academic and a consultant specializing in the formative stages of major design projects for which he has received a consistent stream of international design competition awards. His research concerns scenario planning for cities, megaregions and nations and his most recent work on the relationship between biodiversity and urbanization has been covered by National Geographic and Scientific American. He has published 5 books and over 90 single-authored papers and is currently the Creative Director of the interdisciplinary journal of landscape architecture LA+.
