Cruising the Seventies launch

  • Friday, July 15, 2016 - 17:00 to 19:00

A three-year HERA-funded project, entitled Cruising the Seventies, will launch at Edinburgh College of Art (ECA) on 15th July 2016.

The research question at the heart of Cruising the Seventies is: how might we best reconstruct and understand LGBTQ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer) social and sexual cultures from the decade between the advent of an international gay rights movement and the first reported cases of HIV/AIDS, and what can this knowledge contribute to understandings of queer politics and identity in Europe’s present and future?

The project is led by Glyn Davis, a Chancellor's Fellow in the School of Design at ECA.

Related events will take place the following day - a screening of the documentary United in Anger: A history of ACT UP at National Galleries of Scotland, and a discussion with Sarah Schulman about her latest novel The Cosmopolitans and her involvement with the Cruising the Seventies project at Golden Hare Books.
