The National Galleries of Scotland holds a world-class collection of Dada and Surrealist material, housed and displayed at Modern Two at the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art (SNGMA).

This session will examine examples of collage held in our collections – some of which will feature in a major exhibition on the theme of collage held at SNGMA from 27 June – 27 October 2019 - including examples of dada photomontage by John Heartfield, collage scrapbooks by Roland Penrose and David Gascoyne, literary and artistic examples of cadavre exquis, unpublished collages by Georges Hugnet and the collage novels of Max Ernst.

Kirstie Meehan graduated with a BA and MPhil in Art History from the University of Cambridge, before joining the National Galleries of Scotland in 2006. She obtained an MLitt in Archives & Records Management in 2010 and, as an Archivist, cares for over 130 archives and the special books collection.
