Edinburgh College of Art (ECA) is located in the heart of Scotland’s capital city. There are a number of opportunities to visit us throughout the year and, outside our scheduled events, you can explore our facilities virtually.

If you are thinking of applying to one of our degrees, we understand that visiting us in an important factor in making that decision. We offer a variety of visiting options throughout the year, but please note that we do not currently accept individual visit requests. Please ensure that you do not book any travel or accommodation without checking our events first, as we will not be able to accommodate drop-in visits.

Open Days

We hold three undergraduate Open Days, and one postgraduate Open Day, each year. These events take place across the University of Edinburgh and are a great opportunity to meet staff and students, take a tour of our facilities, and attend a range of talks on study options and services such as Admissions, Student Finance and Accommodation.

All of our Undergraduate and Postgraduate Open Days in 2017 have now taken place. We will be holding further Open Days in 2018; the first of these will be in June.

"It’s a great opportunity to gain more insight into the courses you want to study and the services offered, and to speak to current students and really get a sense of what it’s like to work here, first-hand"

Student-led tours

We are pleased to offer student-led tours of our Art, Design, Music, Architecture and Landscape Architecture facilities throughout the year.

The tours usually take place monthly, start at 11am, and last for around one hour.

Please note that we are unable to include the Film and TV facilities in our Art and Design tours. If you are interested in this area, we strongly recommend that you attend one of the undergraduate Open Days, where you will be able to view the facilities and meet with members of staff.

Visitors who wish to see the wider University of Edinburgh central campus, which takes in the Students’ Union buildings and Main Library, can also sign up to the George Square campus tour.

School visits

If you would like to organise a visit to ECA for a school group, please contact us directly by emailing cara.samuels@ed.ac.uk with your preferred date and group size, and we will seek to accommodate you, where possible.

Your school may also be eligible to work with ACES (Access to Creative Education in Scotland). This project provides encouragement and advice for students from certain, targeted, schools who may be under-represented in universities and who are considering applying to art and design based courses.

Edinburgh College of Art co-ordinates the ACES programme for Edinburgh and the Lothians, working closely with LEAPS (Lothians Equal Access Programme for Schools).

Virtual tours and off-campus events

If you can’t join us for an Open Day, student-led tour or school visit, there are public events throughout the year, such as Degree Show, that will enable you to see selected parts of our campus.

However, we don’t want to disappoint you by being unable to show you our facilities during teaching time, when unscheduled visits can disrupt our students’ learning experience and pose a security risk, so please don’t book travel outside of our scheduled events.

We regularly participate in off-campus events, including Create Your Future in London and Manchester, where you can find out more about our programmes and what it’s like to study here.

If you would like to view our facilities virtually, you can explore the studios, libraries and performance spaces across the campus online.

Post Offer Visit Days

Post Offer Visit Days are an opportunity for successful applicants to learn more about their subject areas and life as a student at the University of Edinburgh.

These events include School-wide welcome talks, subject information sessions, an information fair, and tours of facilities, including the Main Library and Centre for Sport and Exercise.

You will also have the opportunity to see examples of undergraduate student accommodation at Pollock Halls.

If you have successfully applied to study at ECA, you will receive an invitation to your Post Offer Visit Day from our admissions team.
