Edinburgh College of Art (ECA) is located in the heart of Scotland’s capital city. There are a number of opportunities to visit us throughout the year and, outside our scheduled events, you can explore our facilities virtually.

If you are thinking of applying to one of our degrees, we understand that visiting us is an important factor in making that decision. We offer a variety of visiting options throughout the year, but please note that we do not currently accept individual visit requests.

Please ensure that you do not book any travel or accommodation without checking our events first, as we will not be able to accommodate drop-in visits.

Open Days

We hold three undergraduate Open Days, one postgraduate Open Day, and one Virtual Open Week* each year. These events take place across the University of Edinburgh and are a great opportunity to meet staff and students, take a tour of our facilities, and attend a range of talks on study options and services such as Admissions, Student Finance and Accommodation.

*The Virtual Open Week is Postgraduate only at this time, and offers a limited degree availability.

Our Undergraduate Open Days will be taking place on the following dates:

  • Monday 15 June 2020
  • Saturday 26 September 2020
  • Saturday 10 October 2020

Our Postgraduate Open Day will be taking place on:

  • Wednesday 11 November 2020

Online visits

  • Postgraduate Virtual Open Week, 16 - 20 March 2020
  • Postgraduate Online Learning Open Days, 6 and 7 May 2020

"It’s a great opportunity to gain more insight into the courses you want to study and the services offered, and to speak to current students and really get a sense of what it’s like to work here, first-hand"

Schools Outreach

If you would like to organise a visit to ECA for a school group, please contact us directly by emailing ECA@ed.ac.uk with your preferred date and group size, and we will seek to accommodate you, where possible.

Your school may also be eligible to work with Access to Creative Education in Scotland (ACES). ACES is a project for school students in S4-S6 who are interested in studying a visual creative subject, such as art, design or architecture, at university.

We work with our students to support their creative development, explore their future options and help them create a competitive application.

You can also contact our ACES Project Officer, Jessica Hume:

Virtual tours and off-campus events

If you can’t join us for an Open Day there are public events throughout the year, such as Degree Show, that will enable you to see selected parts of our campus.

However, we don’t want to disappoint you by being unable to show you our facilities during teaching time, when unscheduled visits can disrupt our students’ learning experience and pose a security risk, so please don’t book travel outside of our scheduled events.

We regularly participate in off-campus events around the UK (including Create Your Future in London and Manchester) and internationally, where you can find out more about our programmes and what it’s like to study here.

If you would like to view our facilities virtually, you can explore the studios, libraries and performance spaces across the campus online.

Offer Holder Days are an opportunity for successful applicants to learn more about their chosen degree and life as a student at the University of Edinburgh.

These events include School-wide welcome talks, subject information sessions, an information fair, and tours of facilities, including the Main Library and Centre for Sport and Exercise.

You will also have the opportunity to see examples of undergraduate student accommodation at Pollock Halls.

If you have successfully applied to study at ECA, you will receive an invitation to your Post Offer Visit Day from our admissions team.
