Programme: Photography - BA(Hons)

Year: 2014

In this article, we focus on Grace Avery, who graduated in 2014 from our Photography BA (Hons) programme. This is Grace’s account of her first year since leaving Edinburgh College of Art (ECA)…

Since graduating, I have been commissioned as Staff Photographer at the Consulate General of Ireland, based in Edinburgh. Through this, I have had the opportunity to work as a press photographer and, as a result, have had my work published by The Irish Times. I’ve also had the honour of meeting, and photographing, such figures as Nicola Sturgeon, First Minister of Scotland, Fergus Linehan, Director of the Edinburgh International Festival, the novelist, Ian Rankin, and many more.

"Over the last year, I have really enjoyed finding my feet, professionally. I’ve had an array of positive experiences and look forward to many more".

Grace Avery, 2014 Photography graduate

Working as a freelance photographer has given me the freedom to experiment with many different fields, such as wedding, portrait and food photography, and get involved in numerous projects, including fine art and documentary. Over the last year, I have really enjoyed finding my feet, professionally. I’ve had an array of positive experiences and look forward to many more.
