Ethics Policy

ECA has developed a three-tiered system for its ethical review of research activities. It is simple to use, and also ensures any complex cases can be given quick attention.

Edinburgh College of Art (ECA) attaches great importance to the ethical implications of all research activities carried out by its staff and students.

The Research Ethics Sub-Committee is responsible for ensuring the adoption, implementation and review of ethics procedures, as well as raising awareness of ethical issues in research. All research carried out by members of the School, including that for undergraduate and postgraduate dissertations and postgraduate projects, will be subject to some form of ethical review.

ECA has developed a three-tiered system for its ethical review of research activities. It is simple to use, and also ensures any complex cases can be given quick attention and consideration from the Committee.

These procedures have been developed in line with recommendations from the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences Ethics Working Party and Research Ethics Framework, and are undertaken in connection with any considerations that may be required by external collaborators, funders, or other external bodies.
