Edinburgh College of Art welcomes applications from students for our postgraduate programmes. We offer taught Masters programmes, MSc by Research, MPhil and PhD degrees.

Postgraduate studies at ECA offers a range of exciting opportunities for students who choose to focus on discipline-specific research as well as those who wish to work collaboratively across subject areas.  Each of the five subject-areas: Art, Design, Architecture and Landscape Architecture, History of Art and Music, offers a rich and vibrant postgraduate research community with a broad range of academic research interests.

Staff at ECA are leading experts in their fields and will aim to encourage intellectual curiosity as well as nurture professional expertise. They are also enthusiastic about their work and will want to share their knowledge with you.  As a postgraduate student at ECA you will be able to take advantage of a wide range of lectures, workshops and seminars: all our subject areas invite prominent scholars and practitioners to deliver research seminar talks, to run workshops or to lead critiques.  We also enjoy a vibrant relationship with the wider cultural community within Edinburgh including the National Museums of Scotland and the National Galleries of Scotland, independent galleries and workshops as well as professional orchestras and ensembles, and leaders in commerce and industry.

As a postgraduate at ECA you will work in an environment that is stimulating, supportive and challenging so that you can make the most of your time with us and realise your potential.

There are numerous awards, scholarships and bursaries available to postgraduate students studying within ECA. Some of these are general, whereas others are tied in with specific subject areas or projects. In addition, a 10 per cent discount on postgraduate fees is available for all alumni who have graduate with an undergraduate degree from the University, and a 10 per cent discount is also available for international graduates who spent at least one semester at the University of Edinburgh as a visiting undergraduate.
